When I blow dry my hair straight, I use regular hair gel, should I use straightening balms instead?

I use Suave anti-frizz hair gel. It's not meant specifically for straightening, its just hair gel. Should I spend a little extra money and get a straightening balm? I have medium thickness, wavy hair. What types of straightening balms have worked for you??

You should definitely spend the extra money on the balm. I myself use Garnier's Smoothing Milk first then when I'm done I use a hair polish shine mist by Doo Gro. That works really good on me but I had to try a few other products until I found what works on me. So I would advice you to spend a lot of money on a few products to see what works for you. Since I haven't tried gel I would imagine that your hair isn't exactly the softest. And if it's not soft it can't really be too sexy(guys love soft hair to run their fingers thru). So when you find it stick wit it.

You should use both. One is to help the hair get straight (the balm), the other is to keep it that way (the gel).

go get therma silk straightening creme, and put it on your dry hair....then using clips, pin the majority of your hair up and straighten a small section at a time... my hair is very thick, wavy, and this is what I do and it takes me about 15 minutes to have perfectly flat shiny soft straight hair.

Yeah, straightening balm would work much better. It keeps your hair soft. Gel just dries it out. I'm not sure what color your hair is, but Brilliant Brunette puts out a good straightening balm (I'm sure they have it for the other colors too though) and it's only about $6. You can find it in any drugstore or Target.

Or, if you have money to spend, I suggest you visit a salon or Trade Secret and pick up some Bed Head products. They're all I use now. They smell great and never seem to build up, and they do what the bottle actually says they do. One of the best products is After Party. It's a smoothing cream that leaves your hair super soft, but not greasy at all. You can visit www.tigihaircare.com to see all their products. They're pricey, but definitely worth it. Also, don't ever purchase professional hair products in a grocery store or drug store. They're way overpriced and most of the time aren't authentic. Always go to a salon to purchase them.

Hope this helps.
