What would happen if I applied the dye and then dried my hair like I were drying it normally?
For hair dyes aided by heat, is the point to dry the hair or just heat the air covered by the plastic?
Im a hairstylist- the point is not to dry your hair, but to activate the color and make it process quicker and better(more evenly) by adding the heat (because the heat excites the molecules, and opens the outer layer of you hair, letting the dye in deeper, so it also wont fade as fast) you could use a hairdryer if you want, but you dont want the color to dry, because then it'll stop working. you just want to heat it up a bit, so to maintain the moisture in the color, you should probably put a cap over your hair then use the dryer. or go sit in the sun, it'll do the trick.

The point is to heat the hair so that the hair shaft opens and is more receptive to the dye. If you dry your hair you will just dry up all the dye, so make sure you keep the plastic on.

I think that the plastic is used to help hold moisture in. The point of using a dryer is the heat. It helps the color to do its thing. So, drying it normally would defeat the purpose. Not sure what it would do to your hair, but I wouldn't risk it.
