Moved to a new type of climate... hair is extremely dry! Help?

I've moved around quite a bit, but I've typically lived in coastal areas, like Charleston SC, Columbus/Atlanta GA, or Monterey CA. However, I've just moved into what basically amounts to the base of the Rockies, in Alberta (Calgary). It's very cold and SO dry.

My mother-in-law and I went out shopping, and she mentioned when she moved from a humid coastal area (Newfoundland) to this city, her hair used to be long like mine (down to about the middle of my back)... but after she lived here for a while, she had to get it all cut off because it had dried out so badly that she couldn't manage it.

I've been here for two months now, and I've noticed my hair getting drier and drier and drier. It tangles SO badly lately. I've switched to a shampoo for dry hair, but it's not helping.

I'm not a beauty queen or anything... it doesn't need to look like I just stepped out of a Pantene commercial or anything. But I like my long hair. I hate how I look with it short! I don't want to lose it! Help?

An old-fashioned deep-conditioning (moisturizing) treatment that might sound gross...but works!

Smear mayonnaise, YES-MAYONNAISE, all through your hair, make sure it's spread good all through. Take a wet towel, most of the water squeezed out, and put it in the nuker for a minute or two (all nukers are diffent, towel needs to be hot, but not hot enough to hurt you), then wrap the hot, wet towel around your mayonnaise soaked head. Leave on for ten minutes, then shampoo your hair. It will be shinier, soft and not at all dry! You can do this treatment once a week.

I have a relative who's an archaeologist. She's quite often in dry, arid desert areas with hair down to her waist (usually in a braid) and SWEARS by this treatment.

Give it a try...what will it hurt?

wash and condition it every day. make sure you rinse with warm or cool water and blow dry on cold temp. Or try a special hair for dry hair! Hope this helps!
